Ready to take your wheel throwing a step further? 🌿 This course is designed for students who already feel comfortable with the basics and are excited to develop new skills through larger forms and more refined techniques. It's the perfect next step after our Level 1 course at Cone 7, or for anyone with equivalent wheel throwing experience.

Over four throwing sessions, you'll work with larger amounts of clay while exploring a range of functional forms, including larger bowls, small vases with narrow necks, plates, and pitchers. Along the way, you'll practise trimming, attaching handles, and adding simple decorative details to give your pieces a more personal finish.

Every class starts with a live demonstration of the featured technique, followed by plenty of hands-on making with individual guidance from the instructor. The final session is dedicated to glazing your favourite creations. ✨

Because this course focuses on larger pieces, up to 7 finished pieces are included for glazing and firing. You're encouraged to throw and experiment as much as you like throughout the course, then choose the pieces you're happiest with to finish. Most students won't make seven piecesβ€”this is simply the maximum number included.

Course Plan

Week 1 – Larger bowls, cylinders & working with more clay
Week 2 – Small vases with narrow necks + trimming
Week 3 – Small plates + trimming
Week 4 – Practice session, handles + trimming
Week 5 – Glazing

Prerequisite: This course is suitable for students who have completed Level 1 at Cone 7 or have some previous wheel throwing experience. You should be familiar with the fundamentals of centering, opening, and pulling walls.
