Spend a creative weekend at the pottery wheel learning how to make small ceramic boxes, jars and lidded vessels.

The course is open to both beginners and more experienced potters. The teaching will be adapted to your level, whether you’re learning to throw for the first time or want to develop your skills and explore more precise lid-making techniques.

Over two 3-hour sessions, you’ll focus on creating small forms made of two parts that fit together. You could make a jewellery box, small keepsake box, sugar pot, salt jar, spice jar, trinket box, or a mini casserole dish with a lid and handles, or experiment with your own small lidded designs.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Throw cylindrical and rounded forms

  • Create different styles of lids

  • Measure your pieces so the lid fits correctly

  • Make and attach small knobs and handles

  • Trim and refine both the box and lid

  • Decorate your finished pieces with coloured slips, using colour, patterns or simple drawings

The course includes 6 hours of teaching over two days, with demonstrations and individual guidance throughout the weekend. All clay, coloured slips, tools, firing and transparent glazing are included. You’ll have plenty of time to practise, experiment with different shapes and lid designs, and create up to two finished pieces to keep.

After the weekend, we will fire your pieces and finish them with a transparent glaze, keeping your coloured slip decoration visible and giving the pieces a beautiful finished surface.

A fun and focused weekend for developing your wheel-throwing skills !
